Waving Goodbye to the Notch: The $76M Breakthrough
The notch has been a frustration for years—so why hasn’t anyone gotten rid of it? The challenge lies in under-display cameras, which require a separate screen layer. To eliminate the notch, you actually need two screens—a main display and a secondary, under-display screen at the top.
How did REDMAGIC make it happen?
REDMAGIC smartphones began using under-display camera technology starting with the REDMAGIC 6. After five years of innovation and a $76M investment, we seamlessly integrated these two screens into a single, uninterrupted display.
Achieving perfect synchronization wasn’t easy—it required independent calibration of both screens and resulted in REDMAGIC’s first 144Hz refresh rate under-display camera.
With a 20-step coating process and 13 advanced manufacturing techniques, we made the two screens appear as one flawless display.
This process takes three times longer than standard screens and comes with higher production costs, but we believe it’s worth it.
At REDMAGIC, we don’t just follow trends—we push boundaries to bring gamers the most immersive experience possible.
